Our story
Welcome to the Sarcoidosis Ireland Website where patients with sarcoidosis or family members and friends can find out about sarcoidosis, its diagnosis, its many forms and current treatments that are available.
A diagnosis of any health problem can be scary but a clear path of treatment and recovery period are kind of expected. A diagnosis of sarcoidosis is another kettle of fish altogether! Sarcoidosis is a confusing disease as it can affect people in very different ways. The good news is that sarcoidosis generally goes into remission after approximately 2 years. However for some people it becomes a more chronic condition. It an affect any part of the body, usually the organs, and almost always appears in the lungs.
Sarcoidosis causes lumps of inflammatory cells called granulomas to form. Treatment is not always needed, as it can resolve itself, but when required treatment is not always straightforward and often needs to be tailored to the individual patient. it may be helpful to find others experiencing the complexities that arise and share all aspects of life living with sarcoidosis. And that is, hopefully, why you’ve found your way to this page.
It is hoped that this will be a place to laugh, learn, cry, share and vent together. Conversations can be health, family, work, school or whatever related. It can also be a place for carers looking after those with sarcoidosis. Please remember most members of the group have sarcoidosis, may have more severe forms than you, and may also be on treatments that impact their health. Please be kind and understanding!
Where complementary treatments/therapies are being discussed, an admin may comment to provide guidance on whether there is any scientific evidence.
